Spot on.  It is the Detan in the green tin isn't it?  Good for killing ants too.

You can also buy a little "clicker" thing from some outdoor walking company here in the UK, I forget their name but they are on the internet, when you discover a bite you click this thing a few times on the bite and  it takes the urge to scratch the bite away, it kind of administers a type of electric shock to the bite but does not feel like a shock. they are round £7 to buy, I keep one in my bedside drawer in Turkey and I really think it helps but you have to be quick once a bite has happened  ;)

I am not or have not read 6 pages re Mosquitoes, so apologies if this has been mentioned before.

Manual bottle of body spray, something like the Avon Skin so Soft,  open and add 5 drops of citrus oil, (I always over do it and add 10).

This year I am going to add Tea Tree Oil.  or be adventurous and add both   ;)

The citrus oil in the Skin so Soft worked for me when living there for 6 summers.

Karennina we use the clickers and they work great, we bought them in Aldi last year, we take them out at night with us and a few clicks on the bite seems to stop them developing. I also use the turkish spray Sin Kov because the little blighters seem to love me, it doesn't smell great but its better than having the bites for the rest of the holiday.

I have tried every remedy on the planet to stop being bitten and nothing works, what does work is rubbing the bite with a piece of lemon until it stops itching- freely available in the bars and using the cheap lemon cologne available everywhere in Turkey on the bite but dont scratch . If you scratch it will be worse.  we have a house in Calis and find it is no worse than anywhere else. Also some people think they are not about in the cool months- wrong, they are more vicious then and decline in the hot months helped by the spray wagon that comes around weekly in the season.

I can vouch for that, I got badly bitten in Tunisia once in November. They were biting me through my top the little b*****ds.

We used those battery operated automatic sprays last year (think made by Raid?) and they seem to work really well. Chris has just started getting a few bites as Spring seems to have well and truly established itself. We went up to Gunlubasi yesterday to buy some refills for the sprays but couldn't find any of the shops selling them yet.
