I remember Slade at the London Paladium in 1972 supported by Geordie (lead singer now with AC/DC)
I also saw Ian Dury's final concert there before he died   :(

The Jack Bruce Band featuring Mick Taylor----Glasgow Apollo June 1975.

Was going to put Ella Fitzgerald with Count Basie---Kelvin Hall 75 (but the reliable back-up memory of

Google tells me that was November)

Scunner---Could the band you are thinking of being from Perth be actually from Aberdeen.

I recall the Sutherland Brothers who toured with Quiver and produced a few hits with "Arms of

Mary"---"The Pie" ---"Dream Kid" and of course "Sailing" which became a hit for a Mr Stewart (not Andy)

Just checked Net and was informed that their first CBS single "Ain't too proud" 1975 had Dave Gilmour

on pedal steel guitar.

Not a group but Tom Jones at Bradford Alambra. It was thirty bob and I only got to go with my aunty because my uncle refused ppoint blank to go. He still had his pony tail then and he was amazing!!  Marina I am so envious. The only thing I saw at The ABC was the films on a Saturday morning as part of The ABC minors.. I can still sing the tune.. They had a local group on occasionaly and I was smitten with the singer. I remember my aunty went to see the Hollies and she didnt wash her hand for a week because Alan Clarke kissed it..  Happy days.

No Jim, it's annoying me now. Sort of Stealers Wheel, but not them   :)

The New Wave band Fiction Factory had some success with their hit "(Feels Like) Heaven" in 1984.  is this the answer????

You're right Mercury, happy and quite innocent days compared to even just a few years later.  I'm sure the reason my sister wouldn't take me to see the Beatles was because she was convinced John Lennon would spot her in the audience and fall instantly in love and marry her!!   ;D

And anyone who was around at the time would remember the ABC Minors!!  Can't recollect the tune though although I'm sure if I ask my OH he'll remember as he was a regular too.    :)

Heather who are the band from Perth who had quite a famous hit? I always think Stealers Wheel, but it is obviously not them...
Keith, could it be the JSD band ,i know they are from Glasgow but they first came to the fore when playing in your neck of the woods.

Thanks Heather & Ron - this is beginning to drive me mad. Definitely Perth, I only know because they were discussed on STV's Scotland's greatest songs or something. When they mentioned Perth I was surprised as I recognised the song and had no idea the band were from here. Unhelpfully I can't remember the band's name or indeed the song I had recognised!

I even found the lists of bands from the STV website and still can't see who it might have been. Mrs Scunner remembers them too (or like me remembers the mention that they were formed in Perth). If it was just me, I'd say it was Stealers wheel and the rest was my imagination.  :)
