Thanks Heather & Ron - this is beginning to drive me mad. Definitely Perth, I only know because they were discussed on STV's Scotland's greatest songs or something. When they mentioned Perth I was surprised as I recognised the song and had no idea the band were from here. Unhelpfully I can't remember the band's name or indeed the song I had recognised!

I even found the lists of bands from the STV website and still can't see who it might have been. Mrs Scunner remembers them too (or like me remembers the mention that they were formed in Perth). If it was just me, I'd say it was Stealers wheel and the rest was my imagination.   

Fiction Factory are the only ones mentioned in Wiki that had a hit and they got to number 6.

Animals at Leeds Queens Hotel, way back in 60's followed by all the great stars that came to Batley Variety Club. They were great days. In recent years Blondie, Status Quo, David Essex, Edwin Starr and may more at Harrogate Conference Centre. Happy memories...what a great thread!!!

david bowie at the old maine road stadium , think james was on with him , and dire straits same venue , different dates ,the latest was the osmonds (not donny ) at the o2 apollo manchester , and robby on the 18th june canny wait

First band was Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas at our youth club in 1963. Did go to IOW festival and saw Hendrix, Dylan ,The Who etc in 1969

Probably not too politically correct to say it, as he is slowly being airbrushed from pop history, but it was Gary Glitter in Birmingham early/mid 70's 

Can't condone what he went on to do, but can't deny he could put on an amazing show in his day.

Ooh yes, I'd forgotten all about Batley Variety Club - THE place to go and see some of the top acts of the time.
