As also a member of T.A. I see a different image of Calis portrayed, it is constantly beng cristised for a dirty beaches and streets strewn with rubbish. Particularly the area between the Oykun and the Golden Moon which is always coming in for complaints from T.A. Members. Mete take note. I think you need to go to the Fethiye Forum on T.A. and read the comments about Calis before you tell us that people prefer it to Oludeniz. In fact, I read all the time when Calis is mentioned people are recommending not going to Calis but to visit Oludeniz instead.
We Calis lovers live in our own little bubble, not realising what is being said on other Forums.
So Mete wake up and smell the coffee these are just some of the comments on T.A. about Calis. It's time to stop spendng all the money on Fethiye and spend some on Calis Beach. Taking away the Carnival is the last straw.
T.A. Comments.

We didn't think much to Calis either, thought it scruffy and run down. Much preferred Ichmeler.

We loved the Fethiye area, I think I've made that fairly clear in my posts, but we just didn't 'get' Calis Beach. And out of all the places we've visited in Turkey, and the list is getting quite long now, Calis has the least appeal.

We visited last summer after reading a lot of comments on here, with a view to maybe having a holiday in Calis and were quite shocked and disappointed when it did not live up to our expectations,-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A bit late I know, but anyway... We too do not like Calis, beach dirty etc etc but everyone to their own. However if you feel the need to escape to somewhere serene and peaceful, spend the day at the Olive Garden in Kabak. A little trek from Calis as you need to get to Fethiye to catch the dolmus but it is certainly worth all the effort. You can use their beautiful pool, have an amazing lunch and chill out, and if feeling energetic a long steep walk down to the beach. There are many posts with directions how to get there (very easy) and photos. You can look back on my posts if you wish. Enjoy your hols.

As said my favourite resort is Calis Beach, but last year I had to criticise the place, being that I thought the Fethiye council were not carrying out their duties, in care & cleaning up of the resort, where I & other forum members saw rubbish strewn on the back streets, where tourists walk, not a good advert for this resort.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I went in May2012 and it was like a building site in places and seemed more run down than when i went in 2009.I called in Calis again at the end of June 2012 thinking they could have had a big tidy up but sad to say it was only slightly better.Shame really cos its a lovely place to chill out ..
Also some areas are a eye sore, like the land between the Calis beach main street & the Golden Moon hotel / private apartments area, the land is overgrown, anyone staying in Golden Moon hotel unlucky in getting a rear balcony room, have to look on to this land, which is also a dumping ground for hotel, restaurants rubbish,ok there are a couple of large steel wheelie bins there, but they are not adequate enough, everytime we walked from the Oykun hotel we had to walk past cardboard & other waste on the floor, why don't the council build a brick compound with the bins inside, then it would not be such a eyesore, take off all the over-grown weeds to which some are 6 foot high, also dumped concrete etc
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As first-timers to Calis in April, our expectations, were certainly not realised. Thank goodness we had a reasonable hotel to stay in (Mutlu), and a good dolmus service into Fethiye. In these days of austerity, first impressions for holidaymakers count a lot. We'll visit the area again, but Calis Beach won't be on the menu
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I see on the front, where the decked seating area is Locals & Tourists throwing tab ends on the decking & the beach, reason no bins, so what else can they do with them. The council should make the owner of the land behind the Golden Moon area, clear the land off, give it at least a revamp, or if the council own it, they should clear it up.We like other holidaymakers passed it every day, not a good advert for Calis Beach.Being Calis beach relies on tourism, its a place we love to visit, but when tourists see the mess, it can have a bad effect on the tourism
The problem I saw when we were there in May was apart from the rubbish dumped on waste land by builders was that the rubbish was piled up on the outside of empty bins!
On the way to the market from the main road past the Harman hotel there was rubbish on the pavement and 2 ladies who looked like tourists were collecting the rubbish and placing it into the bins.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have just come back from Icmeler and i know I may be biased but I did not spot any rubbish at all and in fact over the last winter there have been vast improvements to the main areas and the beach seemed to have had a layer of finer sand than what was previously there.
Each section of beach is attended by a man who rakes the sand every morning and lots of sunbeds have been renewed with new ones with 4in thick mattresses with attached pillows which are FREE.
If this can be done here why dont the council in Fethiye do something similar as I for one didnt enjoy the areas which were like rubbish dumps.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for all the input, again I stress the bins are not where they ought to be,either against the beach wall to the seating area or each side. How many people are going to take their last drag of a cig, then go looking for a bin, to which like 1st Sterling said in the grass to the side of the large decking area, lets get real no one, the tab end is either chucked on & inbetween the decking area, or over the wall onto the beach.
I always praise Calis Beach, because I love the place, but when there's something wrong at least I will tell the truth, & speak my mind.
There's alot of ex-pats in Calis beach, & have their own forum, why don't they get together & complain to the council, don't they live here most of the year & pay taxes etc to the council. It's not up to the tourist to complain to the council, all a tourist will do is not come back, if they don't like the area.
Then its Calis Beach loss in monetary terms.
