Oh dear oh dear oh dear - re Jacqui's post. I agree that rubbish and tipping of rubble and other household waste is a huge and unsightly problem.

It is my opinion that the sooner the Fethiye Belediye takes over these other local councils the better. The offices and staff will continue in post but they will come under the remit of the Fethiye Belediye and I am sure that improvements will follow. I think the change over takes place this year. At the moment the Fethiye Belediye does not have control over what goes on in Çaliş.

Fethiye town has come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years and the transformation of some areas for the better is outstanding. There are recycle bins everywhere, whole streets have been transformed and generally the whole town looks 100% better. Hopefully in time we will see these improvements extend to other areas like Çaliş and even Ovacık which now that I don't live there any more when I pass through I see things that previously I had just got so used to I didn't see any more.

This whole area is a place of outstanding beauty and just needs a little effort and tidying up to show it at its best.

Yes, hopefully when Fethiye Belediyesi take over things will improve.  They have worked marvels in Fethiye.  Where we live in Babatasi, near the tax office, the belediye sweep the pavements and the gutters and there is even a street cleaning lorry with these huge rotating brushes.

So Mete wake up and smell the coffee these are just some of the comments on  T.A. about Calis.  It's time to stop spendng all the money on Fethiye and spend some on Calis Beach.  Taking away the Carnival is the last straw.

It's not Mete's fault Jacqui! He has worked tirelessly over the years to try and improve Calis Beach. He wanted to get involved with the Carnival because he had the vision to see the benefits for the area. However, he couldn't do it all on his own! All the other hotel and bar owners do not have the same vision as Mete. He has tried but gets no support whatsoever. I have seen it myself first hand having been involved with the carnival committee from day one until I returned to the UK. It is literally like banging ones head against a brick wall!

If you feel so strongly about the carnival Jacqui then move out to Calis and resurrect it! It's all well and good criticising whilst watching from your ivory tower in the UK. Organising the Carnival is bloody hard work!!!

So Mete wake up and smell the coffee

I do not know Mete but from what I have read on here he has worked for many years to promote Calis.

I posted on here many years ago about "two week wonders" highjacking this forum. In the same vein, I have to say that I consider your comment to be completely out of order.

Yes Mete can smell the coffee and wants to get the coffee to Calis. Sadly the people funding it want tea.

Sandgrounder it amazes me that anyone can read a post and get the context totally wrong and interprete in a way to suit them.
So Highlander and Sandgrounder Firstly, I am not blaming Mete, I realise he works hard and does his best,  but after this pargraph of his posting
and I quote
--------------------------------------------------
"I was upset to see what was writting abouth Calis on the form . Because CALIS-DER is giving to much efford to make Calis is better area for Turists and British friends . Calis name start to be up for last 3 years..So many thinks are start to changing in the area .When we go to exibition with Oludeniz,Hisaronu hoteliears. They always saying they are loosing theire Customer .They start to prefer Calis. We are not sitting we are working for Calis ".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He does not seem to realise just how the tourists coming to Calis see it.. He is saying people prefer  Calis to Oludeniz, which, I know from reading  the posts on T.A. is just not true, I personally, see Calis being rubbished all the time on T.A. anyone asking about a holiday in Calis is immediatley told not to go to Calis but to try Oludeniz, Hisaronu Ovacik, etc., It's a daily occurance and one I am sick of reading.  This is why I posted just some on these T.A.  comments so HE can see the true picture.
Secondly,  Sandgrounder, I very strongly resent you saying I am cristising the Calis Carnival.   I love the Carnival Week and have, in the past always gone out of my way to praise and publicise it and I have always try to help in any small way I can.  I know what hard work it is.  My whole post was to point out that Calis needs the Carnival.  I hope one day I will be able to spend longer in Calis and of course, I will offer my help wherever it's needed... and I really do not need you to tell me about hard work I don't have an Ivory Tower and whilst in the U.K. I do help out the local charities in my area.

I would also add as someone who has a property in Calis and pays council tax I would like to see the bins and the street paid as much attention to as they are in Fethiye.

Çalış is governed by Fethiye Belediye, we do not have our own mayor, like Olu Deniz do, well for now until they too will be governed by Fethiye.

Jacqui, you live in "cloud cuckoo land" if you think tourism relies on comments on trip advisor! I for one have never used the site and never will. I'm a great believer in making my own mind up about anywhere I want to visit and anything I want to do! The paragraph you have quoted shows that Mete does care and shows that he is passionate about Calis. He is trying to make Calis a better place for the tourists and local people who live there. he has always gone out of his way to be both helpful and very courteous with all tourists and ex-pats he meets.

Has rubbish in the street ever stopped you going? It's never stopped me, it's all part of the charm of everyday Turkish life. If a few moaning people on trip Advisor have upset you then have a go at them, not the one Calis personality who is trying to improve the area!

I do find your remark "wake up and smell the coffee" to be very patronising and I do know that if Mete reads that he will be very upset by it!
