I have always felt that the God that made Calis Beach was a Turk. He started off with the idea of stunning sunsets, placed them in a huge natural bay with amazing backdrops and then went home without finishing the job.

The result was that the beach itself didn’t come up to the same standard as the rest of the place.

Assuming he was a Turk, the chances of getting him back to finish the job and provide miles of golden sands are remote.
I think the time has come for someone to finish the job for him.

Careful consideration needs to be given to the idea of allowing the beach itself to be developed with features such as large wooden decking areas, floating pontoons, beach bars (Skyfall type) actually on the beach itself. (A similar thing has been allowed in Olu Deniz and the Sat are trying it)

The beach that God left behind does not have enough “Come and Sit on Me” appeal and there are certain areas that could easily accommodate this sort of thing.

Imagine sitting on a floating pontoon having a long leisurely raki and a pide for lunch with the waves lapping a few inches from you .......... before retiring to an immaculate beach decking area for an afternoon siesta on a sun bed......

The only problems I see are Turtles and the fact that it would all need very careful thought, planning and application and this is Calis we are talking about !

Phil I totally agree, it's all there, but needs some imagination, innovation and energy from the powers that be to develop it into that promise of nirvana. I see your vision, we've said it many times, it's such a fabulous place.

It strikes me that there is a need for some professional expertise in tourism marketing for the place, backed up by a genuine will to live up to the promotion by all concerned.  This would include keeping the beach and streets tidy.

Funnily enough, the state of the beach doesn't bother me half as much as the lack of lighting along the main road, Mustafa Kemel Bulvari. The lights are very decorative but almost all of them dont have bulbs that work. It's been like that since I visited in 2009, and God knows how long before that.

I was chatting with Angel about cleaning the beach. She said a few years ago she put on a buffet lunch and a team of volunteers cleaned the beach and had great fun.
I'm definitely up for doing my bit.
If anyone else is, pm me and we can try and arrange a date

Most of the suggestions made above would at little cost - well relative to the money being spent on the prom between Fethiye and Calis - and would meet the requirements of regular and new visitors. How to make it happen, Bar and Restaurants owners to lobby hard for these changes, but unfortunately it will not happen, as too many of them are more concerned with customer numbers and trade of their neighbour /competitor bars, than improving the things that would generate more for the area, and bring in more trade for all.

Take it from me it is the only way to make it happen, and I know from experience of running a seafront bar and restaurant, and being a proud member of the Brighton Seafront Traders Association who did such great work withe Council /Goverment and the big corporations who operate in the area, to make improvements.

Spot on Lance, with reference to the dog problem, its one of the main put offs for me. I have seen them running about and then doing their business, then come running into the restaurants and some people let them lick their hands, rub their noses, stroke them etc, most are street dogs and are riddled with fleas. in fairness to the staff some chase them out, but soon as they go inside to their work the customers are at it again with come on boy, come on then come and have a sausage etc, and feed them. I don't see this happening in olu deniz. don't see it in Fethiye, so why cant Calis prom do it. ???
