Well I can definitely say I was not around when Thatcher was PM, but my parents were not fans of hers living in Scotland throughout some of her time in office. Having also read about the decisions she made, I can say I most likely would not have been a fan either.. to be honest as a student right now with Cameron in charge, no tears will be shed when he finally decides to join satan full-time. Sums up my opinion of the tories really.

Back on topic though, while women are still struggling for the last bits of equality in the working environment, Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister a victory for women and she must of had some fierce level of determination and ambition to make it happen. That is something I can admire, though that's the only thing.

Some of the things I've seen on facebook are a bit too much in my opinion but can also understand that she was loathed by so many and lives were ruined and dramatically changed. My way of seeing things at the moment is that she was a mother and there are some grieving for her tonight.

Just my attempt at being diplomatic in this situation, as I can't really take a side having not been directly affected by her time as PM unlike others who have.

For one so young, an intelligent, articulate and could probably teach us 'older' members a thing or two, Miss M I commend your post.

How many times was she re-elected......someone must have liked her at some point?
She done it every time with a minority (circa 40%) of the uk vote,

How does that compare with Blair's three victories ?

Thatcher wins '79 = 43.9%; '83 = 42.4%; 87 =42.3%

Blair wins '97 = 43.2%; '01 = 40.7% '05 = 35.2%

Not much difference.

And, in other ways, not much difference.

I wonder how many who are making nasty comments about a lady who has unfortunately died bought their council houses at huge reduction and are now profiting from it.

Just one of many of her policies which this country is trying to recover from - her politics were the polar opposite of my own politics, and I despise her for them, however, she dared to stand out from the crowd, something I wish our politicians would do now, instead you cant fit a fag paper between them, so for her steadfast belief in what the Conservatives stood for and for being a first woman Prime Minister -RIP Maggie!

quackers.  Her initiative on council house sales was designed to make her popular,it did'nt cost her or her party a penny.Who do you think picked up the bill for those "huge reductions".??

As easy as selling ten pound notes for a fiver, and the net result is that we now have a national shortage of decent social housing, some legacy
