Machette Attack
« on: April 28, 2013, 20:59:17 PM »
I make no apologies for reporting this but have to say this is VERY rare >:(

About 5pm yesterday two young lads were riding down to Calis, on their first night here, to watch the rugby, they got as far as the new upside down bridge and were ambushed by four Turkish guys on two motorbikes, they came either side of them and brandished a machette and waved it at them.
The lads escaped them but are now frightened to go out for the rest of their holiday >:(, We guess the motive was robbery as they had two bottles of spirits in the baskets on their bike for someone.

The police were called and were making a sweep of the area, they were described as 18-22 year olds, the guy with the machette had a whispy beard and a scar on his cheek, one of the motor bikes were red.

Like I said very rare but please be on your guard.

I feel really sorry for the two young lads.  I hope they can be persuaded this is not the norm and go onto enjoy their time here if they aren't already trying to book the first available flight back home.

Poor lads, they must've been scared out of their wits.
It's time something was done about the motor bike thugs, rare or not it's not what any of us want to hear.
We were pelted with eggs last year by lads on two bikes.  Looks like they've upped their game for this season.

What low life scum bags to do that I hope they are caught real soon.....hope the two lads can go on to enjoy Calis....It has made me so cross as I was on the receiving end of something quite a few years back whilst sunbathing at our pool and it can blooming well traumatise you for a long while and mine did not include a machette.. I am sure you have done a good job Andy in reasurring the lads this is hopefully a one off...
Mind you like Anne said something needs to be done as that egg pelting could not have been very pleasant either....

Hope the lads were ok Andy, I was down the canal yesterday afternoon with my Nikon camera, I might have to think twice and give the kingfishers a miss in the future, or alternatively buy a gun !

After many years of living here the only real problem  i have is the complete lack of police in calis. This is such an easy target area for scum like the biker boys. You can not feel easy knowing things like this are starting to happen.Tourist areas always have and should have a strong police presents to make the people feel protected in a strange place as most people are out of their comfort zone when on holiday. This would never happen in Fethiye....

I find this post very scarey.  Any holdiay makers reading this are going to well put off. Often out and about on my bike with all sorts of stuff in my basket and choose the canal path as Baris Manco is so awful, had 2 punctures in a month.  I really hope the police are trying their hardest to trace these guys but not holding my breath.

Why 'sad'?
People read it. Heed it.
That was your intention, surely?

How frightening, let's hope these lowlife's get caught, it's so unfair how these minority types can spoil things for the majority of us law abiding citizens.  Poor lad's, let's hope they have others they can go out with in a group and can still go out and make the most of their holiday.  I think if this happened to me I would be traumatised for life!
