"Maybe these people also complain about church bells ringing over here too!  "

How many times do you see that in the papers, buy a house near a church (or a school or an airport) and then spend your life moaning trying to shut them up. Beats me!
Ah yes but the difference here is that unlike church bells, it takes place every day 5 times a day starting as early as 4:30am ish USING LOUD SPEAKERS, which is why I'm sure that after a time living close to the sounds of the new mosque will soon dispel any romantacised views that some non-believers may have to the sound of the call to prayer.
Absobloodylutely --- and where I was accomadation for expats was controlled, and always near a Mosque!  During Ramadan the Imam would recite the Koran, starting small until at the end the whole thing cover to cover, over huge loudspeakers, lasted nearly 24 hours! Anyway, still bet it doesnt get built!    :) Funding can always be withdrawn however much it has been approved    :)

Ok john we will set a time limit of 2 years if it is not built I will give £20 to a charity of my choice, if it is built you give £20

Done -- well I bet you will have been  :)

For me, whether in the UK or Turkey, anything be it the call to prayer, the sound of massed pipes and drums bands or the incessant racket of packs of rabid, barking dogs, that keep me awake and/or woke me up at 4:30am, would be a no, no.

I totally agree with you on that one, but the first time I holidayed in Turkey I noticed every time the " call to prayers" but after the second holiday I let it fade into the background and it was not a problem.  The one thing that really irritates is the messages with the "hi-de-hi" sounds that get all the dogs barking and is completely unintelligible to all and sundry about goodness knows what!!

We have a flat in Selvi Evler. I can't see that the car park would be a big enough area for a mosque. Mark can you tell me where you found out this information only I would like to find out if it is fact or just rumour. Thanks
It is in this months edition of LOL, as I said a good friend of mine is involved in the planning.

I live near the Pelin Hotel and over the last few months the land on the other side of the canal has been built up with hardcore/rubble and dirt just as if someone is going to build on it. Also as for the speaker system that annoys certain people it gives very good information about what's going on advents wise and also it announces deaths and emergency info regarding blood being needed at the hospitals and so on. Sorry if your Turkish is not up to understanding it. ???
