Beaches
« on: July 17, 2013, 14:02:03 PM »
Me again!

The beach at Calis is a bit disappointing although nice sun loungers and grass area at Sat Beach Club, and free!

We have used taxis to one or two beaches aswell as the Lagoon at Olu, can anyone recommend where there are any nice beaches we can travel to from Calis?

Thanks for all the advice

Aksazlar, Samanlik, and Kuleli Koyu, are all reachable from Fethiye by dolmus (or walkable!!) really lovely. Tasyaka to Karagozler dolmus only takes a few minutes

Have they stopped charging at the Sat beach now?  I was there at the end of June and they are even charging to use the loo at one end of their beach.

you may be right then as I visited last Summer, thought it was too good to be true, they even bought free water melons out. The barmen were really friendly aswell, take it that's all stopped now then?!

In my humble opinion, Aksazlar is very up and down, as it keeps changing hands! When they first rented it, all was well, but soon deteriorated badly. Maybe better now?
I would personally suggest Gemiler, where since they have banned water sports is quite picturesque! Oh and just a dolmus away from fethiye.
Just a suggestion.

Katranchi is lovely, very shallow and easily reached by dolmus from the top road at Gunlukbasi

We took a boat from Fethiye to Sovaliye island in June. Leaves at 11am and they come and pick you up at 4.30pm. It's 5tl each, each way but you will have to eat there at the only restaurant. Lovely beach good food nice people.

I think Kuleli Koyu is a great place as they have a Mindar for comfortable seating. with shade, pebble beach but the water is close  to where you sit and there is a cafe or if you don't feel like walking for it, a Samovar can be brought to your Mindar and you can drink proper Turkish tea all day long. The only "down" bit is that the sea seems a little cooler in the Bay. But that could be me though as I need warm stuff to swim in!

Weekends you have to be early to get the best ones which I think are on  the extreme left or right of the beach. Left one looking out to sea gets the afternoon sun whereas the right hand side ones benefit from the sun passing over the hill behind in the afternoon to give good shade.

Just my opinion.

What is a mindar? Is it one of those four posters with drapes? Bit like a Kusk (spelling) ?
