I maybe wrong Rimms, but I think the state controlled price is for the smaller basic loaf and any other with ingredients added i.e seeds, wholemeal flour etc is "not controlled"

They used to increase the price of the bread and other items when the tourist season started but this increase is half way through so perhaps the price of flour has increased.  It's always cheaper to shop in Gunlukbasi.

What DaveG says is correct. Bakeries decide on the prices of "special" bread.

Why would the Government do that, when the majority of Turkey doesn't have a tourist season!!!

My wife went into the same bakery the other day, and came back with a "standard" loaf, only bigger. I ask how much, and she said 1.50TL, instead of the usual 75 Kurus

I was suspicious, so when we got home I weighed the loaf.

A 75 kurus loaf weighs 300grms, and the new super sized loaf weighed.................................350grms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice work if you can get it, but he won't be getting it from us anymore!!
