I cycled down to my favourite bakery next door but one to Zayra 2 this morning, the large loaf I get each day is normally 1.50 but today the lady told me the price had gone up to 2 lira. It got me thinking that although in real terms its not such a big deal but in percentage terms it's a 30% increase.

I seem to remember someone telling me that the cost of bread in Turkey is controlled and subsidised by the government? If so, then this rise will be applied elsewhere.

I got 1 long & 1 round brown loaf this morning in the Arzum Bakery in Gunlukbasi for 1.5 TL

I think it was 35 Koroosh when we lived there. Even at 1.5 TL George is right, it's a hell of a hike - 5x in 5 years? Like a Warburtons sliced loaf in the UK being a pound in 2008 and a fiver today.

Bad enough for expats living on their interest but how do Turkish folk on minimum wage cope with price rises like this?
