I'm sure there are many tourists' cupboards with boxes of apple tea going dusty! Never the same. Neither is the lemon-cooling hand spray, it just smells like toilet cleaner at home!

Menthol, we have more than South Yorks in common - I'm married to a retired maths/physics teacher and over the years have learned not to get caught looking at the stars or I am subjected to the ins and outs of the speed of light.   I also never ask how some gadget works as that leads into a lesson on the miracles of electricity or those chip things!!  I say I've learned but actually, I still slip up now and then.......yawn, yawn

Oh my, Bluwise. TA (Tother Arf) is also an ex Science Teacher! He's taught at a few Doncaster schools too in his time ....

And I have a very large box of apple tea gathering dust, Lotty.

On our last visit we brought home 6 large packets of apple tea, a dozen packets of kofte mixes , always fresh red chillies from the veg market in fethiye, and of course the herbs from the supermarkets, a few sweets for the grandchildren,  i am just about finished the apple tea so good job we arrive in a few weeks, more stock coming home this time.

We seem to find more things we love about Turkey each time we visit, i think we need to cut down on the clothes to make room for the goods to bring home :)

We bought a box of apple tea in a nice set with gold finished glasses and saucers, and little spoons. When we moved to Turkey, we brought it back with us, still unopened :D

Linden tea bags for colds, breathing difficulties and sleep problems. Better than lemsip! Chilli flakes-yummy! nutmegs, cinnamon and vanilla pods.

I always bring spices and herbs back - especially chilli flakes ("pul"] but also mixed chicken spices, oregano, cinnamon sticks, and whatever else we have run out of. When I remember I bring back seeds from those lovely tomatoes to be sown the following spring.

Sounds like something TA would appreciate. The chilli flakes also sound good!

I brought back a big bag of the green pointy mild peppers - the ones that go into menemen. Also a garlic bulb. Cost me all of 1 lira. Figs were also in season, but I wouldn't have got those home without a pile of squashed mush being at the bottom of my bag by the time the plane had landed, so I reluctantly gave them a miss.

I usually also get kilos and kilos of pistachios and a few other types of nuts, but the kids had had enought of the heat at the market before we could buy some this year.

The kids like Biskrem biscuits and "Pop Keks" which were a new one on me. From the supermarket I got some honeycomb, which was a very cheap (for me) at 3.75 TRY

Finally, we brought back a litre of Kavak white plonk ("Vino Collapso" ) which we didn't consume whilst we were there so just packed it. Useful to test the theory that some alcoholic beverages taste better in the country that they are produced rather than at home. We already have bottles of unopened Raki at home which at least partially proves the theory.

I've never been able to eat fresh tomatoes in the UK. The turkish ones are more than tolerable though.
