Have great respect for the Mayor and all he has achieved in Fethiye over the years.  Unfortunately, we are unable to attend as we are in the UK at the moment.

Slightly off topic but is Koca Calis now under Fethiye? I know it was supposed to all change sometime soon. Does this mean he will be our Mayor as well or will we still have the Ciftlik one?

well the discussion is going to different subject now but i would like to add some words please.
first of all ; the foreigners can not vote for local election but it is such a great gesture from behcet saatci(current mayor) to realize and wants to listen you. because you live here, pay council tax and same rights as any other turkish citizen. the mayor should not be listening only his party members nor support them. once you are a mayor you are not mayor of party, you are mayor of whole town either they voted for you or not. at this point it is great for behcet saatci to invite you.

but i would also recommend if someone in fethiye arrange a meeting with other candidates too. that would make it better for everybody. one day listen top chp candidate, the other day listen AKP candidate , even though you can not vote , they should listen to you and your needs. it is a win win situation as they will get better publicity for them and you will secure your rights (better beleldiye services for foreigners etc. )

to sum up , it is great to meet behcet saatci but you should arrange a meeting with other candidates. also now kemer is being same status as fethiye and i believe lots of expats in kemer , would be nice if kemer canditates would arrange same meeting in kemer.

In my opinion, he has been pretty consistent for the past 10 years, not just before election time...although things have gathered pace a bit lately.

I have produced and submitted 2 projects to the Mayor's office and they have both been taken seriously. One about the childrens play areas in the area (you may have read about this in the Land of Lights) and at the end of last year, another one sighting the need for a sports complex including a running track, so that youngsters especially can try out different sporting disciplines - no state schools or private ones in this area have access to things like long jump, javelin, short/long distance running etc etc. There is now such a facility planned for the Esen Köy area, assuming he remains in power...As a Turkish citizen, a mayor who actually listens when a valid point is made is all I really want.

I will be at the meeting needless to say!

I've just had a call from Çagatay who tells me that the Mayor is very keen not only to have this initial meeting but also if it's seen as a success would also wish to continue with similar meetings on a regular basis should he be elected.

Çagatay has stressed that it's important to supply accurate numbers of people attending so that suitable meeting space can be arranged, also if you wish to discuss a particular topic or ask a question, could you indicate the subject on here so that the Mayor can be prepared to supply up to date and correct information.

I've promised to supply the final head count by Monday evening. So please let us know if your coming and any topic you want covered.

We will be there too.  We have no fear of showing our support for a man who has done a lot for Fethiye, politics aside.  We will be interested to hear what his plans are for Uzumlu, especially the roads, and if he does not mention the village we will ask him.

Rimms, I was typing my reply above while you posted.  Can you ask him to include his plans for Uzumlu in the meeting, particularly the poor state of the roads.  (we have not had a proper road for 7 years!)

There is no doubt that the locals have a lot of respect for him as I witnessed in Iskelle Rest' one evening (couple of weeks ago) It was evident the warmth and sincerity that he gives out (even if he had reserved the table by the fire I had my eye on when entering  ;) He really
is just a caring normal guy who does not need the razzmatazz of todays sickly politicians.

OK.

Agenda so far is looking like this :

Calis to Fethiye Promenade - What is planned
Uzumlu - Future plans
Internet - What pressure can be brought on TTNET to bring broadband
Baris Manco Cycle lane - Will no parking be enforced

Please confirm if you are going and either post your question or PM me with it. On Monday evening Çagatay will translate our questions ready for the meeting on Tuesday
