I am a snake lover and current owner of five, including 2 boa constrictors, the largest being 8 foot and 48 pounds in weight. I understand many are frightened of them, but believe me, this is no reason to harm them as they are more frightened of us. I lived and walked in California rattlesnake territory purposely looking for snakes and when confronted even those will only shy away unless provoked. I feel totally deprived if I holiday in Turkey and don't see a snake. I look for them, see the water snakes every day and have been lucky enough to see the "big black ones" just darting away as I approach. I have gone out of my way to catch snakes abroad not even knowing their species, and being bitten, very stupid!!!. But most snakes are harmless and it upsets me terribly that people kill them through fear and lack of knowledge. I am proud to say that I have brought many friends and family round to learn to tolerate and even admire snakes. Knowledge is the key. If there are snakes in your area, find out what kind they are and give them respect. Deb
