The (small amount of) fun to be had from buying fake goods at the tourist markets was rather spoiled for me by reading Barbara Nadel's novel "Death by Design".

No they are not fakes, they are copies.  D.&.P. Perfumes is a bonafide business and as there are no copyright laws in Turkey their perfumes are copies and very good ones too.
D.&.P. Perfumes even have a shop in London now.

So what makes what the hawkers sell fakes but what you buy from D & P copies.? By the way I quite
like blondes but not the fake ones as much the proper copied ones.

Hawkers are slyly pretending it's the real thing, D&P are honestly telling you it's a copy.

The stuff the Hawkers sell is an unknown liquid that has been proved to be made in unhygienic conditions with water full of bacteria.  Some women who have dabbed it on their necks have incurred rashes and infections and as Lotty says the Hawkers pretend the perfumes they are selling are genuine with identical packaging of famous brand.  These Hawkers are being dishonest and committing fraud.
D.&.P. is made under very hygienic conditions is sold in many shops all around the world including a London Shop and they make it clear they sell copies.
So, Dave go and try it for yourself and then come back and comment.
