No Hassle

I never feel hassled as such and always try to have a bit of banter on the way to wherever we have decided to go that afternoon/evening. Mostly I hear "hi, how are you, would you like something to drink?" and a simple no thanks will suffice. Years ago I do recall however it was a lot worse with you being followed down the street with them telling you why their restaurant is the best.

Is it me though but isnt this something that only happens on the seafront? I never see this from Mangals, Gunislik, Meeting Point, Dawn Beach etc. Anyone got any theories?

What? Ripping off tourists? Have you seen what they charge for the chemical powder they call Apple tea and the price they charge for Turkish Delight. It's a disgrace not someone doing their job. They are closed throughout the winter months, for obvious reasons.

Sorry to disagree, but it is  his job to drag the gullible and the newbies into pay the prices that they agree to pay. They are not held at gunpoint.  It's their decision to buy.
People only  feel they are ripped off when they see the same thing down the road much cheaper. Then it sinks in that maybe they should have had look see first at the competition.

I think there's a fine line between a friendly welcome and hassle and the more charming ones get it right.  I hate being hassled but I love being welcomed.  Especially by waiters who recognise us 6 months after we last ate there.  They're great at that aren't they?

Agree, especially when they remember your name and your favourite drink. It happened only this week when we visited the very nice Cadianda in Uzumlu, the welcome was a big "Hello George" it turns out to be the lad who worked in the Bambu Cocktail bar last year.

We've been coming to Turkey for many years and are now on our 4th visit to Calis just because it's so relaxed and you don't get literally pulled into restaurants. Unbelievable 9 restaurants get shut down for 3 days. It's one way to kill tourism...
