Your Comments are fair but all boat owners have the same costs be it Istanbul or Fethiye/Calis.Greed and not wanting to understand that by charging less more bums on seats equals returns . 6tl for regular use is expensive and that's why when the tourist have gone the taxi boats stop.Try charging 2 or 3tl and have a full boat.Add extra drop off's and pick up's seeing as there is places along the new front to do so.

I honestly cant see why you think 6 lira is expensive.....yes compared to the dolmus it is I suppose and the NTL wont use it all the time anyway...........I expect you could say that if a beer is minimum 12 lira in Istanbul..then it should be 12 lira in Fethiye.....now that would start an argument  lol lol

It may or may not be expensive, but it is the increase in price of 20% that people are commenting on.

I think they played a similar game on the day hire too.  Putting up the price from 400TL to 450TL late in the season, after putting up the price from 350TL to 400TL less than a year ago.  Plus there appears to be a more 'standard' service approach with little difference in the food (and quantity) between the boats, and the return before 5pm!!  And do not get me started on the 450TL for up to ten people, and then additional people (including children) over the 10 being charged 45TL, it never used to be like that.  It is something that has been slipped in in the last year or so.

Don't get me wrong I love the day out on the boat, we usually get out 6-10 times a year, but I do not like the feeling that I am being ripped off.
Sorry Mrs Tickets has told me that I have this partially wrong, and as she pays this particular bill I defer to her greater knowledge. The price increase that was experienced this year was from 350TL to 400TL, and the increase last year was from 300 to 350TL.  So that is a 14% increase this year!!

I must admit, as a Çalış newbie when we first came over in September to view property we thought the 6TL was incredibly good value for such a relaxing and different way to get to Fethiye.

Obviously, we've not been here to witness the price hikes but does show, that to visitor or newcomer, perceptions on prices can be different.

So, for now, we'll keep using the water taxi when we're over in season... I'm guessing the novelty will wear off at some point (but it may take a while!)

I think mac2010 makes a good point about extra drop offs - especially on the new prom.

I agree Bluwise, just so long as the basin is deep enough.

It is not the price or the increase in price that bothers me particularly - it is the unreliability of service and narrow timetable when we are over that needs sorting. I don't mind paying a couple of quid each to sail in a relaxed style across the bay rather than be driven in a crammed dolmus with my face stuck in a potent armpit - but am fed up with being told they are leaving in 2 minutes and still be wasting my holiday away sitting on it 20 minutes later, (or the next one leaves in 5 minutes when there is none there and no sign of any crossing the bay!! - or it not running when most people would use it. (i.e. early evening, late evening return). As I said earlier - the dolmuses are crammed going to Fethiye at 7pm in October - and the koop apparently feel there is no demand after 5pm??!

It's the same as any business - if you can't rely on it you stop turning up for it - and I do think people would rather just hop on a dolmus in most cases.

I expect to pay 12 for a beer in most places in Istanbul as the rent and wages are much higher than here, but the boat trips are cheaper in Istanbul even with higher cost's so your point is not relevant.I already see places charging 12tl here for beers which i think is acceptable for the right location but would not expect to pay 12tl in say your place or many others as it would be greedy and shortsighted just as the boat taxis here.

Only very slightly off topic...I have wondered for years why the Turks dont do what the Greeks do, that is make use of the water taxis...Good value or not......think we have exhausted that.......Someone suggested extra stops....good idea but why not go further. Why not a water taxi to Yaniklar Beach...for Majesty Tuana.....Ciftlik Beach for the new Thomsons Hotel they are building....One to Coca Calis...and to the beaches around Fethiyes beautiful headland.  Maybe even as far as Katranci. I am not talking about an all day service....summer departures around 10,30. maybe another at 1pm returning around 6pm.....It would give tourists another view of our beautiful home and get them and maybe NTLs to places they have never been to before.......Just a thought
