Watch out for the bugs in flour and corn flour in uk plus the live worms in fresh fish mainly cod and haddock ,check on the internet to see them . :D

I saw a worm in my raw cod once and I've never managed to eat cod since!

A friend of mine in Fethiye is always complaining about beasties in grocery products. She says she puts some things like spices in the freezer for a day to kill any bugs off.
We stopped buying saffron etc., to take back to Scotland, as on one occasion a cupboard I used in the kitchen to store spices was full of little flies that had hatched out in the saffron.
I did not know about worms in fish.   I remember when I took biology that we spent time on a study of meat.  Our teacher told us at that time, to always cook meat well to eradicate any worms, as they could be transferred to our stomachs in uncooked meat.  It worried me and ever since then I would not eat rare meat.  I know things have changed in G.B. with the control of worms, but I am not sure about Turkey and this thread confirms my fears.

Worms in fish are very common the world over. Cod is one of the worst offenders, my daughter bought a small piece for her toddler from our local Morrisons and it was crawling. She obviously returned it and the fishmonger told her that worms are frequently found. They are not harmful to humans but I wouldn't knowingly eat them! :(

I never buy fish from a supermarket.  We are lucky to live near a great fishing port.  I buy my fish from a Fishmonger who goes to the market every morning and his fish is all sold the same day.  He supplies to lots of shops, so he just works from a building with no windows and you would never know he as there if you were not local.    In Scotland we do not favour cod, we like haddock.  In 30 years of buying from the same Fishmonger, I have never seen worms in the fish.  I will ask him about it next week.

We used to buy fresh cod daily from Fleetwood docks.. 3 stones every day for selling in our cafe.. They frequently have tiny red worms in... They are harmless... Doesn't matter where you buy it from..

Gawd I have pretty much given up red meat for the last month and switched to fish when my hubby and son are having mince and beef, now I guess I am going to have to give up the fish now after reading this!  ;)
