To be honest I'm not surprised if people don't go because of the terrorist threat.

Let's face it - anyone who has never been will think twice after last weeks attack in Tunisia. I'm not sure I would take a young family to any Muslim country at the moment - if I had never been to that country before.

It makes things even worse when I read that the gunman was only targeting Europeans (which is pretty much evident in that they now reckon 30 of the dead are British).

However - if planes have been pretty full, as Jacqui says, then one can only assume they are going elsewhere when they reach Dalaman.

I've been trying to plan next winters trip to Kaya, flight out to Dalaman in October with Monarch OK. Unable to check flights for our return in late April as Monarch have not published their schedules for Dalaman in 2016 yet. I've checked a few other popular destinations and Monarch have published their schedules for them.

We have Scottish friends who live n Fethiye, before they moved out, they used to holiday all the time, as they were retired with no ties back in Scotland, they used to book a single trip out, then when in Fethiye they would check the flights back and just pick one they liked.
We noted that some of the Travel Agencies in Fethiye had really cheap one way flights to England.  i.e. £99.00 to Manchester..  £89.00 to Luton.  just a couple we saw.

Our flights earlier this month from Manchester and back were both pretty much full.  Don't know where they were all going but guessing Marmaris area!

We don't normally go to Calis in June, usually May,  and were expecting it to be much busier than it was.

When we came home last Tuesday we were shocked to see how quiet Dalaman airport was.  We've never seen it so quiet before.  At one point the security area was deserted, not a soul waiting to go through.

I do think Stoop has a point though, that anyone never having been to Turkey before will be put off by the dreadful attacks in Tunisia and go for 'safer' options.  But where are they?

In a radio interview one of the Tunisian holiday survivors said her family had chosen to go there because they "didn't want to go to Turkey at the moment".

Maybe I'm cynical but I doubt the majority of sun seeking people even know what or where is a Muslum country!

According to the Pew Research Center in 2010 there were 50 Muslim-majority countries. Around 62% of the world's Muslims live in South and Southeast Asia, with over 1 billion adherents.

The largest Muslim population in a country is in Indonesia, a nation home to 12.7% of the world's Muslims, followed by India (11.8%), Pakistan (11.1%), and Bangladesh (9.2%).

About 20% of Muslims live in Arab countries. In the Middle East, the non-Arab countries of Turkey and Iran are the largest Muslim-majority countries; in Africa, Egypt and Nigeria have the most populous Muslim communities.

The study found more Muslims in the United Kingdom than in Lebanon and more in China than in Syria.

I understand what you are saying Nichola but you know as well as I do that people believe what they read in the papers and it's a well known fact that Turkey is predominantly Muslim.

The media will always choose to sensantionalise stories because that's what they do but I do believe Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt will suffer because people believe they are going to a Muslim country. Thailand has many Muslims as well but they reside, in most cases, where the tourists don't go. India is not really seen as Muslim in many peoples eyes.

It's a horrible situation and only education can have any hope of changing minds.

It is a well known fact that Turkey is a dirty country, very dry and sandy, with lots of flies, and populated by Arabs. Someone told me me up at the Masons Arms.
