the extra police presence where I am is noticeable.
Unfortunately, the "lone gunman" attack carried out in Tunisia would not be prevented by extra polis. It may be stopped quicker, depending on location, but ultimately these type of attacks are very difficult to prevent.
Personally, I wouldn't change what I'm planning because of it - let's face it, they could have targeted the Malagueta beach in Malaga, any of the beach resorts in Egypt or blown up what's left of Brighton Pier. If you let these people put you in a state of fear going about your normal business then they've won, they've done what they set out to do. That's why they're called "terrorists".
I can remember being in Istanbul in 2003 when poor old Roger Short was killed in the consulate bombing - no-one knew what would possibly get hit next. I do remember avoiding any HSBC ATM's, branches of McDonalds and all synagogues for quite a while after. Probably almost a week...
At the end of the day, it's down to the individual what they do, or don't do. Unfortunately this incident is only likely to further damage Turkish tourism which, apart from visitors from Iran, does seem to be struggling this year.
