First Time in Calis - August 2016
« on: March 02, 2016, 13:21:12 PM »
This will be our first time in Calis and second time in Turkey.  We really enjoyed the Turkish atmosphere and food and I was wondering if you could help us with a few things to help us out.

I have been lurking on the website for a little while and have just registered so I have read some reviews and reports and also watched the videos that have been put on.

We would like some restaurant and bar/nightlife recommendations for Calis and Fethiye as we plan on taking the water taxi a few nights we are there.  We are a family of 3 – 2 adults and 1 - 15 year boy.  When we last visited Turkey a good few years ago we ate at quite a few Turkish restaurants and loved the food and had salt baked fish one night – does anyone know of a restaurant that would do that for us.  We will try most things to get the best experience but generally love most types of food.

We are also looking to do a boat trip, kayaking, quad biking and a jeep safari, can anyone recommend who is the best to book these through.

We are planning on going to the Lagoon in Olu Deniz, how much is entry and are there any better places to hire sunbeds from and have something to eat from throughout the day, also we like a nice sandy beach if possible?  :-\

Sorry for all the questions but I like to have a bit of knowledge and help before I travel.  ;D

Badger we have already watched 4 of them but I was wanting some restaurant recommendations and information on what to do, where to go, best places for markets on what days.

The Oludeniz one never mentioned about best places around the Lagoon or where to eat and drink on the Lagoon.  Also things like where to get on and off the dolmus for the Lagoon.

If you have a look through the restaurant reviews on here you should find lots of info on where the best places to eat are.
There are stands selling trips both on the prom and the main street heading to the beach so take your pick.  Usually you can haggle a bit of a deal if booking more than one.
As for the lagoon.  I would not recommend paying to get in to the main area.  You are packed in like sardines.  Ask the dolmus driver to drop you off at Sugar or Billy's beach, just a tiny bit further round the lagoon and much nicer.
Have a great holiday

Forgot to say that boat trips can be booked at the water taxi desk.  Smaller boats which offer private trips but you can always get on one.  They are much better than the huge boats imho

Agreed Anne - but we would recommend Sukru at www.sugarsboattours.com    :).

Slightly bigger boat but tremendous day out.

I believe that Highlander's advice is wholly impartial.

No ulterior motives of which I am aware - I've taken his recommendations before and never been let down.

Why would he recommend otherwise?

We're long standing Jerry Boat fans but have to say our day out last October with Sukru was excellent.
