Heard recently that the Baskan of our village wandered into a watering hole, went upstairs and proceeded to light up[:(!] When asked politely to not smoke as it was now illegal he just ignored it and carried on :o What can you do!!!

I dont think posting hearsay or inuendo or rumour has a place here. But as an ex smoker albeit up to 30 years ago,I do think its an infringement of human rights.if the bar, restaruant, watering hole or whatever is not to your taste avoid it.I agree smoking is a health hazard. So why dont all governments totaly BAN it.Job done.Markets find their own level in every other commodity in the world from food stuffs to gold etc,so why not smoking???????or sales of cigarettes also.

We were there last year, on the day the ban was introduced, every bar or restaurant we went into, observed this, and it was greatly appreciated. We returned in October, despite the colder nights and bars being enclosed they still were observing it. I would also like to point point out that the smokers should great consideration and respected the law.

You're totally right, Captainjon, smoking is a health hazard.  So is alcohol, perhaps that should be banned as well :-\

The problem with smoking is the "passive" dimension, that is not the case with alcohol as far as I know. This is a very thorny issue, my comment is merely an observation. That said, surely life is so much more pleasure in a bar etc without the awful pungent smell of smoke for all concerned!

As a smoker, but a non drinker, the point is valid regarding second hand smoke, my friends who drink but do not smoke do not force me to drink, however if i smoke in a confined place i am forceing them to smoke all be it second hand.  Every restaraunt/bar i have been in since the ban in both fethiye and calis have enforced the ban, however i have seen holiday makers smoking in bars in both hisaronou, and ovacik, i have also heard said holiday makers being very intimmedating when asked to go outside to smoke.  Smoker or non smoker, surely we are required to abide by the laws of any where we CHOOSE to go regardless of what we see going on around us.  Just my opinion.
