My hubby's a train driver in Bristol, and we live in South East Wales, about 26 miles away. He should have been working at 4.30am this morning, but with our first full night of snow, there was no budging his car at 3.45am. We live down a long narrow lane and the bend round to the back of our house is tricky on a good day!
He rang into work to say he couldn't get his car out, then proceeded to walk the 5 miles to our local train station, catching the first morning train to work at 6.50am, arriving half an hour later. He then had the 5 mile trek back home, in 8" of snow, at the end of a 10 hour shift.

He's tried digging his car out this afternoon, but it's not going anywhere, as its on an icy slope! He's just rang into work again and explained, and asked if it was ok for him to get the first train again tomorrow.

The bloke who answered the phone was vile and told him that this weather could last a fortnight and that he needs to get into work on time!!! How many people make no effort at all, let alone a 10 mile walk, on top of a full shift. He's not happy!!
