It is always good on quiet days to stop and reflect on how far we have all come as a group and to remember how much closer we are getting to freeing Misha and Tom. Keep up the good work ALL of us. We are all in for the long haul, i.e. beyond the freeing of our two and the freedom of all dolphins. Thank you Dolphin Angels for leading the way.

Just to let you know that I have also emailed the following in the UK in the hope that they will highlight this story & help raise awareness.  I have mentioned this forum for anyone wanting more details & also the Born Free Foundation website which contains the online petition & alsothe link to the facebook campaign.

BBC breakfast news
BBC radio 2 - Sarah Kennedy & Jeremy Vine shows
BBC The One Show
GMTV
Heather Mills

On another note - we are in Kas in September so I sent an enquiry to the car hire/transfer people we have booked casually asking if there was an opportunity to swim with dolpins.  If they had said yes I was going to cancel my booking with them.  However they came back with the response as follows
'The dolphins were moved from Kas a few months ago.  There is talk about getting more but I doubt this will happen by September.'

Has anyone else heard these rumours?  The last thing we want to happen is for them to get more dolphins in the Kas dolphinarium.

Review part 2 - part one towards bottom of previous page 173

Silent Protest March
The end of June was a bit of a turning point in more ways than one. The Silent Protest march was a huge success in the sense that the high turnout was an amazing sight to see, was very uplifting and exhilerating, achieved mass media coverage with some rather exaggerated figures about the actual numbers present but as this was in our favour who cares.

Some people later remarked that afterwards they were left feeling somewhat deflated and with a sense of anti climax. It might be hard to assess the impact or ever really know what if any concrete outcomes there were from the march itself but ultimately it was an opportunity to make a statement and a big one for such a tiny place as Hisaronu.

1st August there is going to be a really huge Freedom for Dolphins Event in Istanbul organised by Turkish people and organisations... the ripple effect is working away.

Operating License
In the meantime a full two months after the start of the tourist season enough pressure was brought to bear on the Ölüdeniz Belediye by the Dolphin Park to force them to issue an operating license without the permission of the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the Hurriyet article 25th March the mayor said the final decision would come from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Representatives from the ministry will inspect the completed site and issue an operating license to Dolphinarium Kas only if the centre meets their standards.

"We cannot give a guarantee on whether the Dolphinarium will open this summer because it is up to the ministry to do this," said the mayor.

The operating license was actually issued by the Olu Belediye 30th June two days before the Protest March.

The Boycott
It should not be underestimated what has been achieved as a result of the collective efforts and contributions of everyone involved.

These include everyone who followed the story, wrote a letter, made a phone call, told a friend, raise some money, attended the protest, wears a Born Free Live Free Dolphin t-shirt, the list is endless.

The local boycott has been a huge success and should continue for as long as necessary.

Ironically the people turning up to swim (and people are coming to swim) come not from Hisaronu but from Calis, Kas, Kalkan, Sarigerme and Gocek.

So the reason for coming to Hisaronu where "all the tourists are" has not given the Dolphin Park the business they so desparately need.

And they are desperate. Open two months behind schedule, more adverse publicity than anyone could ever have imagined, in debt up to their eyeballs and a growing group of opponents numbering by now thousands that are refusing to go away.

More to follow, bringing us more up to date and with some new information.

Does anyone know Thomsons policy on this. Flying Thomsons on Sunday, happy to hand out flyers but just wondered if Thomsons have joined the campaign to boycott the 'attraction'
