They made a mistake, one most of us can never imagine doing. But, they will carry the greatest punishment imaginable for the longest time possible - every second of their life till the day they die. It's hard to understand how some fellow human beings can have no compassion.

I can already feel that this emotive topic will arouse strong feelings on both sides of the arguement (as it did the last time it was raised I believe).

For my part, I agree with Shaun. Especially if I understand it correctly that it was not the first time the parents had made the "mistake".

Agree Keith!  We have all done things with our kids which with hindsight or just thinking back has put them in some danger.  We were the lucky ones that got away with it!

Our kids love eating out and we love having them with us. The idea of leaving them in an apartment, at home or anywhere else is quite alien. Mind you, after our kids had enjoyed their meal out they often crashed out and Calis waiters would kindly put two comfy chairs together for each of them - something complete strangers slagged us off about on "another forum" rather than to our faces.

But no, we would never ever consider doing what Madeleine's parents did, but my point is that it is difficult to not appreciate the grief, regret and sorrow that their actions bring, and will bring, for every single day of their lives. Surely that is enough.

OK - the parents maybe suffering grief, regret and sorrow that their actions brought.

I can only hope that their daughter is not suffering the same, or more profound grief, regret and sorrow or indeed far worse horrors.

Whether you feel sorry for the parents or not the fact is that there is a young girl out there somewhere who was taken from her mum and dad. Surely that is enough reason to want this to be brought to a conclusion asap - hopefully with her being returned safely to her parents.

I do have compassion for them however it doesnt change the facts of what happened. They left her alone.

Why would my thoughts on the Mcanns prevent me from wanting it to be brought to a conclusion? Not sure where your'e coming from with that? I would be ecstatic if they found her.

Stoop - I agree entirely. When all is said and done, that is the single most important thing.
