I'm not saying you don't want it to end but that I cannot understand why some people would not sign the petition when it's aim is to help find Madeline. Peoples thoughts on the parents are irrelevant in my opinion.

The one thing I could never begin to understand was why they even decided they needed to do what they did. In a previous life, holidays were the one time we could be together at meal times (I used to either be staying away overnight or if not often not home till after they had long gone to bed) - I am sure the McCanns with their professions must have been very much the same - why on Earth would you not want your kids around you at holiday mealtimes?

Stoop - given that I do want Madeleine to by found, your comment has made me think about my possible "knee-jerk" reaction.

You maybe right.

Maybe I should put my thoughts about the parents to one side until Madeleine is found (hopefully safe and well) and then, and only then, address the question of their culpability.

PS I severely doubt that a review now will make one iota of difference. But that's another issue.

I think peoples thoughts are very relevent and what is the point of a discussion forum if they cant be expressed? Unlike Highlander, I have not gone with a knee jerk reaction on this,I have thought the same all along and like you all, I hope she is found safely.

I cannot understand why parents and friends would not return to Portugal to help police stage a re-enactment which was to help find Madeline.

JB - I can feel your total conviction on this subject in your posts and believe me I think we feel equally strongly towards Kate and Gerry McCann.

But Stoop's point is surely that this feeling is "irrelevant" when the first and only priority, at the moment, is to find Madeleine.

Exactly how I feel and what I meant H. The what's why's and if's are irrelevant in my opinion.

amca - I think it was well documented at the time why they did not want to go back at that stage.

I think you could have said the same thing back then to them, surely.

Never left mine alone either Mr 'H', had my eyes on them as much as I could!  What I actually said was ...
We have all done things with our kids which with hindsight or just thinking back has put them in some danger. We were the lucky ones that got away with it!
People all think 'It will never happen to me'!  Well it does as the Mc Cann's found out unfortunately.  People never learn - look what happened in France today where a 7 month old and 3 year old were left in a 7th floor apartment ALONE!  The 7 month old climbed out of the window and fell 7 floors, miraculously caught!!!
Would not stop me signing the petition though!  After all it is requesting a review of the evidence to find her!!!

We can all speculate on the reasons for not returning (and we do) but, at the end of the day if all the evidence from both police forces is reviewed then something that might have been missed may, and I stress, may come to light.

If it did bring to light what happened then it would bring closure.

When I first read about this I was disgusted/amazed that the parents had left Madeleine alone.  What's done is done and it is something they will always bitterly regret.

I like, everyone else in the World, hope she is alive and safe.  Signing the petition, which costs nothing, could possibly help find out the truth.
