Ah, but how much would a nursing home have cost?  Many less well off pensioners and their families would have had to spend thousands of pounds for a similar time in care.

Well perhaps the Barclay Brothers saw an opportunity to help a friend in need.

It's none of our business as they own the place. It isn't State owned. None of us contributed any tax towards her stay.

Are you all saying that none of your own relatives should be looked after by someone who is prepared to pay for it?

the anticipation of her croaking was far better than the actual event.
So you didn't get invited to a street party either, eh?

Why? I'm quite happy to have my taxes help pay for it. Rather pay for that than all the drunks clogging up A&E every weekend.

The Director General of the BBC has said that, personally, he finds that buying this track is "rather tasteless" but there could be "editorial reasons" for broadcasting it. It reminded me of Tom Lehrer's Wikipedia page, He chose his own favourite reviews of his work. The first of these was from the the New York Times: "Mr Lehrer's muse is not fettered by such inhibiting factos as taste".  Good for him. I have just bought a CD by him and can confirm that it is true.

They can play it for me. Never ever listen to the dross on Radio 1 and most of the kids who listen won't have a clue what it's all about anyway.

I think it's rather sad though that grown-ups are buying a song to 'celebrate' the death of another human being.

I am rather puzzled by this business of things being "sad". Do you mean that it makes you feel sad or is it that the people buying the track are sad? Perhaps they were playing it at their jolly street parties where they were having a lot of fun and weren't sad at all - but some people complained about that as well!

To confirm Colwyn - I think the grown ups spending their hard earned cash to buy the song are indeed sad individuals who probably need to get a life.

It also makes me, personally, rather sad that there are people out there who will buy any song to celebrate Margaret Thatcher's, or indeed any person's death.
