Last year I used Avon's 'skin so soft' and had very few bites.  This year it didn't touch them. I came over at the same time and there were FAR more mosquitoes about this year.  I had a number of visitors and having told them mosquitoes weren't really a problem in the area, was embarrassed when they were all eaten alive when we were out!  I used citronella spray in the end and this helped, but I was still bitten quite alot.  I did see the sprayers, but I think they must have reduced their frequency - also I saw more in Fethiye than Calis.

After seeing all these comments regarding mosquitos being a problem this year, I have been shopping this morning and bought us all a wristband, mosquito repellent spray, after bite spray and as many citronella tea-light candles as I could carry (for when we are sat out on an evening) for when we visit in July.  Without this forum I wouldn't have known about the mozzies being such a problem - so thanks everyone   :)

Get yourself a zapper for when you sit out in the evenings, works much better than the candles, which we now no longer bring with us.

We will try a 'zapper' if they are good.  Can you buy them in Calis?  My husband was once really poorly following a mosquito bite so that's why we are a little bit proactive when it comes to mozzies.  Thank you

The zappers are good, we have cleaned ours of beasties quick a few times now.  We bought ours in Migros a few years ago. I read recently they had them in again.  If you get a bite try 1% hydrocortisone cream and apply it regularly.  Also, if the bite gets swollen and sore, go to the Chemist and get some 1000 mil penicillin  tablets.  I was badly bitten in 2005 and the bite was infected.  This was at Letoonia. I saw a Doctor he gave me a prescription for 1000 mil pencillin.  I took one and the wound cleared up.  The cost of seeing the Doctor was £30.00 plus prescription.  A large tub of 1000 mil pencillin tablets in the Chemists is 11 Lira.  We always have a tub of them now..  ;)

Thanks for your very helpful advice Jacqui.  It really is once bitten twice shy when it comes to mozzie bites!

Me again. I have just been told it was OFF that I used while I was there. Never used it before but it seemed to work. Maybe it is something the little blighters aren't immune to.
