Have to agree with Jacqui. Anyone up here who knows Alec Salmond wouldn't dream of voting for him. He is as much help as a chocolate teapot.

Salmond is right about that point at least. No country can prevent another country from using its currency. There are a great many examples of this around the world - usually by having the US$ as their chosen currency. The Westminster parties, when on their best behaviour, say "Scotland cannot have a currency union" but they aren't often on best behaviour and so say "Scotland cannot have the pound" which is simply untrue. We could argue about whether it would be good for Scotland to have the £ without a currency union, and personally I think it is their best choice, but there's no point in arguing about whether Osborne can stop them from having it - he can't.

I am sure we can all trust Mr Salmond with our currency here in Scotland he was formally employed RBS and held the ex "Sir" Fred Godwin as his close friend, who Salmond said would be great help to Scotland.
Salmond was our local M.P. for 23 years, in all that time I cannot recall one good thing he did for our area.  I can recall the many many complaints from local people who told of asking him for help and him doing nothing.
I also don't know anyone in my circle of friends acquaintances, or family who have a good word for this man. A man that was never seen to use any local businesses or put his face into anything (unless it was in the press).
I remember 22 years ago their were 15 Antique Shops in my area, we got together and produced an Antique Trail.  I was part of an Organisation to help to promote all businesses in the area (not just antiques) We asked for help from our local M.P.  he did what he always did for us, nothing...

If Scotland gains its independence after the forthcoming referendum, the remainder of the United Kingdom will be known as the "Former United Kingdom
In a bid to discourage Scots from voting yes in the referendum, Lib.Dems have now begun a campaign with the slogan: "Please Vote No For FUK's sake"

Scotland are free to make the choice, which is correct and as it should be.  However, I see this issue from a different perspective, in that it is about democratic deficit for the English.  No English Parliament, or even regional assemblies, and until recently we had Scottish MPs voting through Health and Education legislation for the English, that they would not dare put to their own constituents through the Scottish Parliament.  Why are the English (and indeed the Welsh and the Northern Irish) not getting a vote at the same time as the Scots on the continuation of the United Kingdom?

We could then hopefully get back to the policy and debate led politics of the English radical past, before the Scots (and before them the Norman French) and then more recently the Germans came to rule us.
