Virus in calis Fethiye
« on: June 20, 2014, 13:21:26 PM »
Hi we had 2 weeks in calis old town , during our stay we picked up sore throat , earache and headaches, we went to chemist they gave us antibiotics , but they didn't work  , so came home and after 2 weeks of the ear and throat pain went out GP , he gave us penicillin , once again didn't work , so back on Monday to see Dr .
Our daughter became very unwell , she lost her voice ,headache that wouldn't go  away , sweating , glands swollen , so they did blood tests and said that she had contracted a virus that attacked her thyroid , so they gave her beta blockers and now has to go on tablets to see if they can get rid of the virus , if not she will need hospital treatment .
My self it attacked my sinus , pain and pressure in ears , still throat pain , Not as bad as my daughter
but not right either , the reason Im saying all this is , Is there anyone had this whilst been there or living there.
We sated at the deska legend apartments in old town near the odyssey apartments .
The shower in there had not been cleaned and the screen dirty with hair in plug hole and grim , not good and as it passed my mind we could have pick germs up here , But there again still not sure ...
If it was air bound , if anyone as been poorly please let us know , thank you Joy

Hi  Sorry to hear you or family have not been well.  When we arrived 6 weeks ago, we too were ill.  Started with a sore throat, cold and flu like symptoms.  Totally had no energy which lasted for about 3 weeks in all.  Hubby had vertigo and suffered with his ears for 3 to 4 days.  We also had anti-biotics but still had to wait for it to go.  We are fine now and looking forward to the next holiday.  What ever we picked up it makes you feel really ill.    :)

These things can be picked up in many ways. Flying is one of the worst offenders as you are stuck with the same air re-circulating and bringing with it, anyone's germs.

One thing I was told by a medical professional was to always run the taps/showers for a few minutes when you arrive as it helps get rid of any nasties in the pipes (legionaires for example). That's one reason why I would never have another jacuzzi as we always had to put Milton in the bath and run it for a few minutes every time we had used it. Pain in the backside but needs doing. I try to stay out of them at hotels as well for the same reason - nasty germs.

I hope you all make a full and speedy recovery.

I live in Scotland.  I had two weeks annual leave last July.  I flew with Easyjet to Jersey for first week.  Returned on the Saturday night and started the scratchy throat you get before a cold.  I then spent the second week of my holiday lying in bed or on the couch.  By the middle of the week it felt like a chest infection, so I trotted off to the doctor.  Examined and told my chest was clear but that my tubes were going into spasm.  I got over feeling ill but the tightness in my chest did not clear up completely.  In August I had the same thing happen and this time I was put on an inhaler.  I then had another bout in December and have been on an inhaler since.  I still feel tired and still have breathing problems but don't need the inhaler everyday.
I have been tested for respiratory problems by practice nurse and they have ruled out COPD and Asthma.  Think the next move is to get sent up to hospital.
I am not alone with this problem in our area as I have come across several people with same symptoms. General opinion is a virus.

I know the notion that airline air recycling causing health problems has been labelled an "urban myth" but the number of times I suffer from sore throat and dry cough for several days after flying makes me suspicious. Perhaps the "urban myth" thing is an urban myth spread be airline companies.

Me too, almost every time I fly I can guarantee I come down with a bug of some sorts. I always blame the air on the planes circulating everyone's germs around

Thank you so much for your replies , this is so interesting ,that you also had similar stuff going .
Our Dr says antibiotics won't work for this virus that attacks your organs and bodies etc .
he says that if you're weak and your immune system is low it will attack wherever it can leaving you poorly
He then says to my daughter it could take 6 to 12 months for this to be clear .
I too thought it could be the flight , then the shower , as the shower looked like it had been stood like that since last year . The complex had only been built last year but stood idle  till May .
But interesting thing is the vertigo because that causes ear problems  and you poor thing with the chest troubles , hope you get well soon and they sort you out , plus you other guys feel well now , thank you for your notes , much appreciated joy

IMHO it does hit the weak spots.  I am prone to sinus trouble but this seems to go one step further and it has attacked the whole respiratory system. Sounds like the same thing.  I have been told by a lady who does alternative therapy that it is a form of swine flu.  But do not quote me on that!!!
I have also spent money on herbal remedies ..no joy.

Heather ,that is what a guy in calis said ,swine flu, he had read it in the papers saying people in Turkey not quite sure of the areas , there were breakouts of swine flu .
My daughter is very poorly , she as lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks ,she is slim to start with ,she can't talk and coughing up rubbish , So this isn't very good  ........ I just hope she gets well soon
                    thanks a lot joy
