What Does Calis Need Most to Attract Tourists?
« on: March 23, 2013, 18:13:58 PM »
Taking this away from another topic about something else, what do you think the no.1 priority should be if Calis is to improve it's tourism appeal?

I have always said that the bars and restaurants along the front are the best people to look after the piece of beach in front of them, keep it clean as a whistle - in turn they could offer a waiter service to the area directly in front of them which people would be under no obligation to use at all if they didn't want to.

When I proposed this in around 2007, I was told that "the other bars" (the ones that are not on the seafront) would never allow it as it would be showing favouritism to those who are. So once again, a decent idea scuppered by people who won't get anything out of it for themselves.

So mine is a clean, well groomed beach - yours?

The roads are a mess and a lot of the pavements have been dug up and left, and Easter is next week! Also I wish there was a campaign for keeping Calis tidy, litter is everywhere except in the bins!  >:(

Clean well kept beach..last year it was cleared of rocks but no cleaning machine to maintain it
seats all along the  Calis prom  to see the views out to sea so as not to sit on the sea wall with your back to the sea as is now
litter bins on the beach.not tiny flower pots ..
turkish culture activities throughout the season for tourists to enjoy
remove scrub behind meeting point/ old post office up to the g m  hotel.and rubbish from B52 bar
remove scrub  along side the apartments up to the 24 hr shop by the taxi rank.an eyesore for new arrivals  to calis
extra king size bins in this entire area to try to eliminate dumping .
remove the family who live under the bridge by taxi boats and clean up their mess [ as seen last year ].
remove the build up of rubbish seen going over the bridge on the right hand  beach end side between the bridge & bank .
more dropped kerbs to help infirmed and push chairs.
more king size bins behind eroz down to mutlu.at night its an eyesore always overflowing
more turkish menus,  less chips & rice as is almost everywhere.
stop mopeds along the prom  its a danger .
more flights at better prices , why cant turkish airlines like CTA do this route ?.
market Calis better  many have never heard of it , to bring people so more trade for the locals .

I agree Keith.  I'd begin with the beach.  It's horrendous and they've the cheek to charge you for the pleasure of using one of the sunbeds to sit among the litter and cigarette ends.  In the eight years we've had our place we've never once used the main part of the beach, much preferring to go along to Guvens or the Surf Club which is a bit of a trek but since they both look after their little bit of beach it's much more appealing.  I'd also love the see the restaurants taking card of the tiny little grassed areas along the front of their premises.  A few colourful blooms along there would make a huge difference.
The streets strewn with litter, household rubbish and builders rubble is another bugbear of mine.  There are bins on most streets now so why are they not being used?  Are there no laws in Turkey against littering or builders dumping their rubble?  It seems to be a case of my area is clean and tidy so to hell with the rest.  It's a terrible shame.
All that said, I love Calis warts and all
